31 Days of Victory : {Day 24} Psalm 91

“You give me your shield of victory.
You stoop down to make me great”
2 Samuel 22:36

The promises of God bring so much hope and peace to my soul. After reading the scripture above, I began to envision myself behind a gigantic shield from God whenever I was under attack from the enemy. Of course, I would have my shield of faith in hand as well, but I imagine it to be much more "my size," while God's shield of victory is far greater. Many translations of that verse say "shield of salvation". This shows us that the victory is in the salvation of the Lord.

Psalm 91 paints a beautiful picture of God's protection and salvation for his children in the midst of battle. It's one of my favorite chapters of the Bible because it's filled with promise from beginning to end. There was a time when I meditated on it every night. It helped me through so much trouble. Because of it, I learned that God is on my side, that safety is in His presence, and that He is the one who rescues. I also learned what it means to dwell in His shelter by sitting in His presence and resting in His truth.
My friend and prayer partner, Verna Boyer, drew this Psalm 91 picture
of me when I was walking through a storm in life.

As a writer, it’s easy to feel the need to explain in depth the scriptures I share. But scripture is powerful and speaks life on it’s own, without my extra words. So today, I simply offer you Psalm 91 to meditate on. Towards the end of it, there are places for you to insert your name within the scriptures. Doing that helps me to accept God’s promises as I read; I pray it will do the same for you.

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely He will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. “Because [insert your name here] loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue [name]; I will protect [name], for [name] acknowledges My name. [name] will call on me, and I will answer [name]; I will be with [name] in trouble, I will deliver [name] and honor [name]. With long life I will satisfy [name] and show [name] my salvation.”

“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.” - 2 Thessalonians 3:16
